IT Support for Transport and Logistics

Exodesk provides transport and logistics IT support for operators across New Zealand. Our Christchurch and Dunedin teams look after the agreed devices, accounts, depot networks and hosted systems, and coordinate with your operational software providers.

We start with your depots, operating hours, applications and the work that must continue during an interruption. Support hours, site attendance, recovery and software changes are agreed around those requirements.

Supporting New Zealand businesses since 1989

Transport and logistics IT support: a depot, a truck with a driver tablet and an office workstation, connected and supported.
The short answer

What does transport and logistics IT support cover?

Transport and logistics IT support maintains the technology your office, depots and mobile staff depend on: access, devices, connectivity, hosting, security and recovery, with responsibilities recorded for each provider.

Dispatch, booking and accounting applications have their own features and support terms. We identify the supported systems and who handles a fault that crosses between them, so a problem with a depot scanner, a driver tablet or a hosted application reaches the right people.

Exodesk has supported New Zealand businesses since 1989. Today, our Christchurch and Dunedin teams support businesses nationwide, with support hours and site attendance agreed for each operation.

Office, depot and road

Support across the whole operation

An office login problem, a depot printer fault and a driver tablet that will not sign in need different responses. We agree transport and logistics IT support priorities around the work that keeps freight moving.

Office

Accounts and systems

Staff accounts, workstations and access to hosted and cloud systems, set up and supported within the agreed scope.

Depots

Networks and equipment

WiFi, scanners, label printers and workstations checked against the site and the work each depot does.

Drivers

Devices in the cab

Phones and tablets set up, updated and replaced through an agreed process, with access controlled for shared devices.

Planned changes are scheduled around dispatch and depot hours where practical. Anything outside the ongoing scope, such as a new depot fit-out or a device rollout, is quoted separately.

Software providers

Working alongside your freight software

We review the applications you already run before proposing a replacement. Transport and logistics IT support looks after the environment around them, and each provider keeps its own responsibilities.

Where records need to move between applications, our business software integration service checks feasibility, data rules and failure handling. A new function or application can be scoped through custom software development.

Exodesk also builds and supports Zinform Logistics for freight management and Transsend for mobile capture. Those pages explain the products. You do not need either to use our IT support, and product selection, configuration, licences and application support are separate items in the proposal where required.

Depots and devices

Depot connectivity and driver devices

Depot work depends on networks, scanners, printers and hosted applications, and driver devices carry job and customer information. We check supported equipment, ownership and operating conditions before agreeing changes.

  • Depot networks. Coverage, equipment and application access are checked against each site. WiFi design and changes are scoped through our business WiFi service.
  • Driver devices. Platform, ownership, enrolment and replacement are agreed first. Mobile device management can apply settings and updates, and a remote lock or wipe generally needs the device to be online.
  • Shared devices. Devices passed between shifts need agreed account controls and protection for the information stored on them.
  • Driver and delivery data. Names, home addresses, signatures and driver-linked location can be personal information. The Privacy Commissioner notes that GPS in work vehicles needs clear policies that drivers know about, including how out-of-hours information is handled. Our NZ Privacy Act guide covers the wider duties.
Coverage gaps

Plan for coverage gaps and interruptions

Offline capture and live office visibility are different. Where a supported app can work offline, records stay on the device until they can synchronise, so the office sees the latest received status rather than a continuous live picture.

A status update such as a pickup scan or delivery photograph is not the same as a current vehicle position. Agree what a driver can do without a connection, how dispatch spots delayed or missing updates and how changes reach a driver who has been out of coverage.

We identify critical services, recovery priorities and fallback arrangements with your team. Backups, restore tests and supplier responsibilities are agreed for each system, because a backup does not recreate an unavailable cloud service or records still held on an offline phone.

Illustrative example of offline capture and office visibility: a driver records a delivery with no coverage and the record is held on the device; when coverage returns it synchronises; the office then sees the latest received status, and delayed or missing updates are checked. How it works

How transport and logistics IT support is set up

Each arrangement starts with your sites, hours, applications and current providers.

1

Review

Record depots, users, devices, applications, connections, current providers and recurring problems.

2

Agree the scope

Confirm supported systems, support hours, urgent escalation, site attendance, recovery and separately quoted work.

3

Hand over

Confirm administrator access, device enrolment, backups and supplier contacts, scheduled around dispatch hours.

4

Support and review

Handle requests within the agreed scope and review devices, access, recovery and supplier roles at agreed intervals.

Faults that cross between Exodesk’s IT work, software support and vendor-controlled services follow the escalation path agreed in the scope, so nobody has to work out who to call during a busy morning.

Support and cost

What affects transport and logistics IT support cost?

Cost depends on users, sites, devices, applications, security, recovery and the support hours required. Early starts and weekend operations are discussed before any cover is agreed.

  • Ongoing support. Users, devices, sites and support hours within the agreed scope.
  • Projects. Depot fit-outs, device rollouts and migrations, quoted separately.
  • Hardware and licences. Devices, network equipment and software licences, shown separately.
  • Software support. Application maintenance and supplier changes, identified separately from general IT support.
  • Terms. Inclusions, exclusions, GST and the term, set out in the quote.

The overall support agreement is described on our managed IT services page. Compare the full cost with measurable time, error and downtime improvements.

Questions

Transport and logistics IT support questions

What does transport and logistics IT support cover?

Transport and logistics IT support looks after the devices, accounts, networks and systems your operation relies on. The agreement identifies sites, users, equipment, applications, hours and provider responsibilities. Freight software features and implementation are scoped separately where required.

Is IT support the same as buying freight software?

No. Freight software runs functions such as consignments, manifesting and dispatch. IT support looks after the wider environment that staff use to reach those functions. A project may need both, with the product, configuration and support terms made clear.

Do we need to use Zinform?

No. Your current applications are reviewed before any replacement is proposed. Zinform Logistics and Transsend may be options, but supported interfaces, access and vendor responsibilities are checked first for the platforms you already run.

Can you connect our existing transport and accounting systems?

A connection may be possible where suitable interfaces, licences and permissions are available. Agree the records, timing, rules, validation and failure handling before building. Integration can reduce re-entry but does not make incorrect source data accurate.

Can you support depot WiFi and devices?

We can scope the network and supported devices needed for the work at each depot. Coverage, scanners, printers, workstations and application access are checked against the site and equipment. Specialist hardware or software suppliers may keep particular responsibilities.

Will drivers still have access without mobile coverage?

That depends on the application and what was available before the connection was lost. Transsend supports offline capture followed by synchronisation when coverage returns. Offline recording does not make new dispatch changes or current office information available without a connection.

Is a freight status update the same as live GPS tracking?

No. A status records an event such as a pickup, transfer or delivery. Vehicle location needs a suitable location source and permissions. The latest received event or position may be delayed, so the meaning and timing of each update should be clear.

How are driver phones and tablets protected?

Check the platform, ownership, enrolment, accounts and stored information first. Supported controls can include managed settings, updates and remote actions. A remote command generally needs the device to be online, and wiping cannot reverse an earlier disclosure of information.

Is driver and delivery information personal information?

It can be, where an individual is identifiable. Names, home addresses, signatures and driver-linked location are examples, while many business freight records are not. Agree necessary collection, access and retention, and tell workers clearly about any monitoring.

Can we get help before normal office hours?

Support hours, urgent escalation and any early-start or weekend arrangements are agreed before the service starts. Tell us your dispatch and depot hours. Being based nearby does not by itself promise an immediate response or same-day site attendance.

How much does transport and logistics IT support cost?

Cost depends on users, sites, devices, applications and the support, security and recovery required. The proposal separates ongoing support from project work, licences, hardware and hosting where applicable. Compare the expected benefits with the complete cost.

How do we get started?

Describe your sites, operating hours, main applications and a recurring IT problem. Our Christchurch and Dunedin teams can then discuss the scope for operators nationwide. Recovery, supplier roles and site attendance are agreed rather than assumed.
