IT Support for Construction Companies
Exodesk supports construction businesses in Christchurch, Dunedin and across New Zealand with IT for office staff and site teams. We plan connectivity, managed devices, access to project systems and backup around the way your people work and the sites they move between.
The aim is to help staff reach the approved information, capture site records and get support when a technology problem blocks the job. We agree the systems covered, the suppliers involved and what sits in ongoing support or is quoted as project work.
Supporting New Zealand businesses since 1989
What is construction IT support?
Construction IT support is the support and management of the technology a building business relies on across a head office and changing sites: computers and mobile devices, site connections, access to project files and applications, and the backup behind the records.
It applies an ongoing support arrangement to the way construction work happens. The commercial inclusions of that arrangement are set out on our managed IT services page; this page covers how it works for office and site teams.
Exodesk has supported New Zealand businesses since 1989. Today, our Christchurch and Dunedin teams support businesses nationwide, with on-site attendance at other locations agreed for each site.
What our construction IT support covers
We work with the office and site technology your business relies on. The agreed scope of construction IT support can include user support, managed computers and mobile devices, site connectivity coordination, secure access to files and applications, and backup and recovery arrangements.
Office and site support
Help for staff whether they sit at a desk or work from a site office, with support hours and escalation agreed in the scope.
Devices and access
Computers, phones and tablets set up for the role, with account and project access changed as staff and subcontractors come and go.
Records and backup
Site photos, dockets and project files reaching the shared system, with backup and recovery designed around what the business needs.
We confirm responsibilities with your project-software vendors and other suppliers. Supporting the technology does not replace your process for approving drawings, variations or payments; the business still decides which revision is approved for use. Larger system changes, new-site setup and specialist vendor work are scoped separately where needed.
For site dockets and timesheets, Exodesk also offers Transsend, our own digital forms product. It is optional. We agree support for your existing forms and apps as part of the scope.
Keeping office and site teams connected
A site connection needs to suit the location, the work and how long the site will operate. We check the available options, power, installation access and the applications relying on the connection before recommending a setup.
Mobile broadband, a fixed connection or satellite can each suit different sites, and satellite needs a mounting position with a clear view of the sky. Where a fallback is needed, we agree which critical tasks it should support. Provider speeds, availability and charges are confirmed for each site rather than assumed.
When coverage drops
Some apps support offline work, but only for supported functions and files prepared in advance, and a connection is still needed to exchange updates. Confirm which tasks work without coverage and which files staff need before they leave it. The process should show when records have uploaded and how the crew checks for the approved drawing revision after reconnecting, because a file stored in the cloud is not automatically current on an offline device.
Devices and access on changing sites
Site devices travel between jobs. We match devices and protection to the role and working conditions, then configure the agreed access and management settings. A rugged device suits some roles; a standard device in a good case suits others.
Account and project access changes are planned when staff join, leave or move between jobs. Subcontractor access is limited to the work they need and reviewed when that involvement ends. Our mobile device management service covers enrolment, settings and remote actions in detail.
A missing device needs a prompt report. Lock, wipe and other remote actions depend on the device and management setup, and the device has to receive the command. Photos or forms captured offline may exist only on that device until upload completes, so a confirmed upload process is as important as the device itself.
Working with your project systems and vendors
Our construction IT support covers access, devices, connectivity and the agreed application environment without Exodesk becoming the project-software vendor. The scope states who resolves product faults, integrations and permission changes.
- Project software. The vendor resolves product faults; we support the devices, accounts and access around it.
- Office systems. We support the agreed environment for estimating, accounting and files, with infrastructure upgrades scoped separately where needed.
- Backup and recovery. Cloud access and sync do not prove that backup, retention and restore meet the business need, so those are designed and tested separately.
- Payments. Invoice and subcontractor payment fraud targets the industry. The NCSC advises verifying high-value requests through a second channel, such as a known phone number.
A business continuity plan coordinates how the business keeps working if a site office floods or a laptop is stolen, and tested recovery arrangements make that plan workable.
How support and site setup are delivered
Construction IT support starts with the people, sites and systems in scope, then separates ongoing support from setup and change projects.
Establish the scope
Record the users, active sites, systems and suppliers, and the tasks that cause delays today.
Protect access and backup first
Account protection and backup do not wait for a migration or new system. They are prioritised by risk and dependency.
Pilot with a site team
New setups and changes are tested with one team, with a change window, checks and a fallback, before they extend to other sites.
Support and keep current
Ongoing support follows the agreed hours and escalation routes, with on-site arrangements for each site and updates as people and projects change.
What affects construction IT support cost?
Cost depends on staff, devices, sites and systems, plus the setup and support required. We agree inclusions before work starts.
- Recurring support. Users, devices and the support hours agreed.
- Connectivity and software. Site connections and licences, shown separately from support.
- Site setup. New-site mobilisation, cabling and equipment as project work.
- Hardware. Devices, cases and replacement arrangements.
- Larger changes. System changes or a cloud migration, quoted on their own.
Separating these costs lets the business budget for the current site and the next mobilisation.
Construction IT support questions
What is construction IT support?
Construction IT support covers the technology a building business uses across its office and sites, including devices, site connections, access to project files and backup. It applies an ongoing support arrangement to the way site and office teams work together.
What happens if a site device is lost?
Report it promptly so access can be restricted and the available remote actions considered. Protection depends on the device and management setup. Files already uploaded may remain available, but records stored only on the missing device could be lost.
Can staff work when site coverage drops?
Some supported apps and files can be used offline if they are prepared first. Confirm which tasks work without a connection, how staff check drawing revisions and when uploads have completed. Test those steps before relying on them at a site.
Is new-site setup included in monthly support?
The proposal separates ongoing support from site setup, connectivity, hardware, cabling and other project work. Exodesk agrees the inclusions and supplier responsibilities before work starts.
Can changes be rolled out during live projects?
They can be planned around active projects, but interruption cannot be ruled out. Start with a pilot, agree the change window and checks, and have a fallback before extending the rollout.
Does Exodesk support our project software?
We support the devices, accounts, access and connectivity around it. The software vendor resolves product faults, and the scope records who handles integrations and permission changes. Your business keeps control of drawing and variation approvals.
Do site staff need rugged devices?
It depends on the role, the conditions and the applications. A rugged device suits some site work, while a standard device in a protective case suits others. We match the device, protection and replacement arrangements to the job.
Do you support construction businesses outside Christchurch and Dunedin?
Yes. Our Christchurch and Dunedin teams support businesses nationwide, with remote support and on-site attendance at other locations agreed for each site.
Discuss your office and site IT
Tell us how many people work in the office and on site, where the active sites are, which project systems you use and what is causing delays. We can then discuss the construction IT support and setup work your business needs.
Talk to us about your sites
Tell us about your office, your active sites and the systems your teams use, and we will be in touch about construction IT support and arrange a time that suits.
